I asked the boys what they thought they were?
"A sphinx... you know... like in Egypt!" remarked my husband.
"Cactus!" remarked my son.
"No!", my son changed his mind... "They are rabbits covering their privates... on a pogo stick!"
Owls! A dozen little owls. I've been admiring this pattern since October. I am proud of this little cap since I figured out how to convert this pattern to use DK weight yarn on size 2 and 3 needles. The original pattern calls for Worsted Weight yarn and larger needles (size 6). I added one extra owl to make the numbers work out. I struggle with math, so it was an accomplishment for me to get the numbers to all work out. In case you are wondering, I will be adding some buttons to make the owls eyes more prominent. I will probably add eyes to one or three owls. I'll post another photo when I sew on the eyes, but for now... I was just so excited to show you all my latest cap!

I kept shouting "their owls" through the whole post. delighted to discover I was right. Men-- they just don't have eyes for knitted animals. When I was working on my toy lion my husband said, "Oh, cute porcupine" -- honestly!
oops, I mean "they're owls". See how excited I was, I lost control of my grammar!
Oh, thank goodness. I am so pleased you all can see the owls! I thought maybe I was suffering from "yarn on the brain" or some other rare affliction from too much knitting!
