In The Pink

My friend, Harriet, game me some yarn recently.  Thank you, Harriet!  She did not have a specific use for the yarn and she asked if I’d like to knit it up.  My pleasure!  This is Berroco Comfort DK yarn in the “Kitten” color way.  I made up a bunny using a pattern called “Bonbon”.  This is Bonbon Bunny #5 for me. I love this pattern.

I decided this yarn would also look great in a cap.  In the past, I have made lots of chemo caps using Berroco Comfort DK yarn.  It’s an easy care yarn and it’s nice and soft.  Here is the hat knit up in a pattern called “Alternating Cables Cap”.  This is my own design.

I am really enjoying my knitting over the past few weeks while we have been spending so much time at home due to the pandemic. I am finding that I am doing a better job of casting on and sticking with a project until completion.  I still have MANY unfinished objects/works in progress.  

Knitting Monsters

Knit up some some monsters this week. 
Knit Picks sent an email to me and the Chubby Chirps pattern was attached.
So of course I had to make one.
Then I had to make some Monster Chunks.

 This Monster Chunk is Zach's; he picked the colors. He especially likes the eyes on this one.

Initially I did not put a mouth on this Monster Chunk.
I kind of liked how he looked without a mouth, too.

Funny how different the colors look in different lighting.  The feet are orange (more accurate in photo where the Monster Chunk has the mouth attached).

I think the Chubby Chirps pattern is especially adorable. I struggled with the beak a bit.

The Chirp is called "Pinto". Yep, he's filled with pinto beans. They all are.  I used rice in the foot of the green monster chunk but the rice can fall out if the knitting is not super tightly knit.

My little menagerie sat in the window today. They are pretty good company.  They are pretty darn cheerful, aren't they?

I've decided making up my own knitting patterns is my NEW favorite thing.

I'll put it here so it's official... my goal for 2013 is to be creative and make up my own knitting patterns. Folks on Ravelry have been so nice each time I have uploaded a pattern. It's fun!



We had a White Christmas! My first EVER. Can you tell I took this photo on fluffy, beautiful snowflakes?

I enjoy making miniature ornaments each year for my Christmas tree. This year, I made miniature mittens following a number of patterns I found on Ravelry. The tiny size of the mittens and the length of my double pointed needles made me feel I was "all thumbs" while knitting, especially the mitten’s tiny thumbs. Ironic! I actually went so far as try to knit on wooden tooth picks and it seriously would have worked if it weren’t for the fact the tooth picks splintered easily. I learned bits and pieces from each pattern I tried and I incorporated what I’ve learned from making full-sized mittens in order to come up with my own pattern which is quick and easy to knit.

Here are the other mitten ornaments I made this week, while trying various patterns and while trying to make up my own pattern.  As you can see, I also made two mini-stockings and one mini-sweater. The mini-sweaters sure are time consuming but I can whip out the mittens in no time at all.  It's funny using left-over tidbits of yarn for these ornaments. I think of the original project... the pattern, who received the item, or what was going on in my life while working on the project.  A little walk down memory lane.

Itty Bitty Toy "Squishy Balls"

In her book "Itty Bitty Toys," (book pictured above) Susan B. Anderson has some great, fun projects. Again, using bits of left over Cascade 220 Superwash from my GAA... making "Squishy Balls". My son loves them and they are pretty safe indoor toys!
